Do you know how to invite someone to do something in Japanese?
Welcome to Three Step Japanese Practice by JapanesePod101.com. In this lesson, you will practice how to invite someone to do something.
Let’s look at the main dialogue.
Two people are having a conversation.
え!すこし やすみませんか。 へやで ゆっくりしましょう。
E! Sukoshi yasumimasen ka. Heya de yukkuri shimashō.
Huh? How about resting for a bit? Let’s relax in the room.
いいえ、まず、おんせんに いきましょう。
Iie, mazu, onsen ni ikimashō.
No, let’s go to the hot spring first.
In this sentence, the first person says "へやで ゆっくりしましょう。 (Heya de yukkuri shimashō.)," "Let's relax in the room."
This "ましょう (mashou)" ending is a way to say "Let's verb." It attaches to the masu stem of a verb, in this case, します (shimasu). "ます" is removed to get the stem, し, and then ましょう is added.
You can see this happen again here
Where the second person says "いきましょう (ikimashou)" or "Let's go…"
Let’s practice with this grammar more in this lesson.
